GROW Model

GROW is a simple framework developed in the United Kingdom and is one of the tools Google uses to teach managers about coaching conversations. This model stresses the importance of adapting and flexing coaching styles based on the team member’s needs and receptiveness.

Guiding Questions

Ask Yourself:

  • Is there effective teamwork?
  • Am I giving them the opportunity to learn, grow, and find career fulfillment?
  • Is there anything that I should start/stop/do more or less of that would be helpful to my team?

Ask Your Team:

  • Do you feel informed enough to do your job well?
  • Would you say you mostly have good days at work? What makes it a good day?
  • Is there anything you think leadership should be thinking about or doing?
  • Is there effective teamwork?
  • Do you have clarity over our expectations of you for the next twelve months?
  • Is there anything I could do differently to make your job easier or for you to more effective?
  • Do you have everything you need to fulfill your responsibilities?
  • Is there anything that I should start/stop/do more or less of that would be helpful to you?
  • How do you feel about the quality of our programs and services?
  • Knowing yourself and your capabilities, is there anything you would like to suggest about how you could make an even greater contribution than you already are?
  • Is there anything in the workplace that needs attention to make it a better experience for you?
  • Are we giving you the opportunity to learn, grow, and find career fulfillment here?
  • Is there anything about the organization/ team you want to especially affirm?
  • How do you assess your contribution in the company? (can use a scale from 1 to 10). What do you need from our side to have a greater impact?
